Food and wine pairing. It's a thing. Well, we're making pyjama and cocktail matching a thing. You heard it here first.
A few ingredients, a cocktail shaker employed with dramatic flourish, some willing participants/victims and the Christmas tunes on loop and what you have is a bona fide festive Christmas Pyjama Party.
We've outlined our suggestions for Christmas tipples (sipped elegantly of course) and what to wear while drinking them.
Cranberry Kiss (a.k.a. Festive Kir Royal)
The cranberries give this Kir Royale a festive twist (and a truly spectacular colour that screams Christmas). With a syrup made from cranberries, Crème de Cassis and sugar this Champagne cocktail is guaranteed to put some pep in your seasonal step. We think it goes best with the Ottoline Luna silk pyjama Shirt and Eos silk pyjama trousers.
- 150g fresh cranberries
- 75g light soft brown sugar
- 100ml Crème de Cassis
- 1 x bottle Champagne or Prosecco*
Tip the cranberries into a small saucepan along with the sugar and 1 tbsp of the Crème de Cassis. Heat gently for about 5 minutes until the berries burst and turn sticky, then place in a small bowl and allow to cool completely. You can make this in advance and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Use a teaspoon to divide the berry mixture among 6 chilled champagne flutes. Top each with the remaining Crème de Cassis and then slowly pour over the Champagne or Prosecco. Stir gently with a long cocktail spoon before serving.
Smooth Saint Nic (a.k.a. The most decadent Brandy Alexander ever)
This decadent, creamy drink looks chic but is not without power. If imbibing more than two, best to be reclining. We think it's best to do that in the Ivory Dietrich silk pyjama set. Just like Marlene would have done.
- 40 ml cognac
- 30 ml Crème de cacao white
- 15 ml almond milk
- 15 ml double cream
- 1 star anise
- 1 tsp peeled pistachios
Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, then strain into a stemmed cocktail glass. Grate over a pistachio, then garnish with the whole nuts and star anise. Simple.
T'was the Night Before Christmas (a.k.a. a gin cocktail that'll make present wrapping seem a dream)
If this refined gin cocktail had a human equivalent, she'd be the girl at the Christmas party with the perfect hair, the piquant repartee and the best laugh. We think that girl is the Black Dietrich silk pyjama set.
- 30ml Tanquerey
- 15ml Martini Bianco
- 15ml Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice
- 1 teaspoon Créme de Cassis
To Garnish -
- Orange Peel
Combine Tanqueray, Martini Bianco and pink grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Double strain the contents into a chilled coupe glass. Add the spoon of Créme de Cassis. Garnish with orange spray and a twist of orange peel.
Jingle My Bells (a.k.a. A vodka + Cointreau tipple)
With traditional winter flavours and scents of cranberry and allspice, we think this long, tall glass of yuletide works perfectly with a stripe; we've paired it with the Charleston Luna silk pyjama shirt and the matching Charleston Eos silk pyjama pants.
- 45 ml vodka (we love Grey Goose)
- 30ml Cointreau
- 30ml lemon juice
- 30ml cranberry juice
- 1 teapspoon allspice
To Garnish -
- A full slice of lemon studded with cloves
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a tall glass over ice and top with soda. Garnish with the lemon wheel studded with cloves.
